Proto-Cyborg: Computation and Digital Fabrication Strategies for the Enhancement of the Body

The term 'Proto-cyborg' has been proposed in the studio as a catalyst for the re-examination of the broad class of ergonomic layers, coverings, devices and attachments that we use upon, around and inside of our bodies. Students will use computation design, digital fabrication and responsive systems to craft and integrate extensions for the body that redefine the relationship between body and surrounding environment. We will explore to what extent this process more fully enables the body/attachment hybrid within the digital/ physical spaces of our current milieu.
